LES Parent Info Letter: Free and Reduced Meals & Student Placement
Dear LES Parents/Guardians,
We are beginning to plan for the 2022-2023 school year and wanted to share some updates with you.
• The federal lunch program through the USDA will no longer be providing free meals to all students. A free/reduced lunch application will be included in this year’s registration packet and will need to be submitted for approval for a student to receive free/reduced meals.
• Students in grades 3 and 4 will return to a more developmentally appropriate single-teacher structure as this will provide a stable and flexible learning environment with the opportunity to develop a supportive relationship with one teacher. Grades 5 and 6 will continue with the AM/PM teacher schedule.
• LES will not be accepting specific requests for next year’s teacher as all of our teachers are highly qualified and effective with classroom instruction, but we value any information that you share with us concerning your child’s needs by completing the optional Parental Placement Information Form (see details below).
When creating classroom assignments for students, both academic and social/emotional strengths and needs of all children are taken into account to create gender balanced classrooms of equal number of students. We take a team approach that includes meeting with classroom teachers, special educators (when applicable), and administrators to discuss all the information regarding your child, including the optional Parental Placement Information form in
order to identify next year’s classroom assignment.
If you have information you would like to share concerning your child, pick up a Parental Placement Information
form from the LES front office to complete or visit the LES website to complete the form electronically so that your valuable input can be used as a part of our decision making process. The completed form must be returned to the LES front office or submitted online by Friday, May 6, 2022.
Thank you for your continued partnership in your child’s education. Should you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me.
